Having opened its South East office in 2023 following the firm’s merger with regional firm Batchelor’s, Birketts’ footprint in the region has grown significantly.
During the past year, the firm has added to its expertise through the appointment of leading Partners, including Helen Garner (Corporate), Nicola Gooch (Planning & Environmental), Stephen Horscroft (Private Client Advisory) and Salim Somjee (Corporate).
This month Charlotte Sloan, was promoted to the firm’s Partnership, bringing the total of South East Partners to eight.
Charlotte Sloan leads the South East Employment Team and is part of the firm’s Education Sector Team. Having joined Birketts as a Legal Director in June 2023, Charlotte is highly experienced in advising businesses and organisations on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious employment law scenarios. Her reputation as a leading lawyer in the South East region has led to regular participation as a speaker at events and panel discussions, as well as delivering training on topical employment law issues.
Overall, the Birketts South East team now includes 79 colleagues, marking a 243% growth in size since its inception. This growth was further evidenced through the office expansion to double its capacity in February 2025.
Speaking on the firm’s three-year anniversary, Partner and Head of Office, Vanda James, said:
