Brachers LLP’s Corporate Team has successfully advised the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation Limited (IWWF) on its relocation from the UK to Switzerland, a strategic move designed to strengthen its ties with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the wider Olympic family.

Recognised by the IOC as the global governing body for towed water sports, IWWF represents athletes and national federations worldwide. The relocation to Lausanne, Switzerland, home to the IOC and more than 50 international sports federations, positions IWWF at the centre of international sport and supports its long-term ambition to secure inclusion in the Summer Olympic Games in Brisbane 2032.

The transaction involved the transfer of all assets and liabilities from IWWF Limited (UK) to a newly established Swiss association. This complex international process was led by Matthew Simmonds (Corporate Partner), supported by Kieron Cummins, with additional expertise provided by Robert Field of Burgess Hodgson (Accountancy and Tax Advice) and Julien Gafner of Resolution Legal Partners (Swiss Legal Counsel).

Matthew Simmonds, Corporate Partner at Brachers, commented: “Congratulations to the whole team at the IWWF on its strategic relocation to Switzerland. Moving closer to the IOC and the international sports community in Switzerland is an important step in IWWF’s journey towards Olympic inclusion. I am delighted that we were able to support the IWWF during this journey and wish them the very best for the future”

Kieron Cummins, Corporate and Commercial Senior Associate at Brachers added: “We’re delighted to have supported the IWWF with its relocation. Their move strengthens their international presence, and we wish them every success in the next stage of their development.”

Jose Antonio Perez Priego, President of IWWF, said: “This relocation is a bold step towards the future of our sport. Lausanne is the centre of the Olympic movement, and being here strengthens our ability to advocate for waterski and wakeboard at the highest level. It positions us to build stronger partnerships and pursue our goal of Olympic inclusion. I am very grateful to the teams at Brachers LLP, Burgess Hodgson LLP and Resolution Legal Partners for their expert support and guidance during this process.”

Louis Polome, Secretary General of IWWF, added:

This move marks an exciting new chapter for IWWF. Being based in Switzerland brings us closer to the organisations that shape global sport and provides our athletes with greater resources and opportunities to compete at the highest level, including future Olympic Games.
