Burgess Hodgson, the Kent-based accountancy and advisory firm founded in 1938, has acquired Wandsworth Consulting, a specialist tax relief practice based in Surrey, in the first acquisition since the firm’s partnership with Boston-based private equity firm Abry Partners.

Wandsworth Consulting, established in 2014, has built a strong reputation as a leading specialist in capital allowances and R&D tax relief. The firm has supported clients across a wide range of sectors, from innovative, tech-rich start-ups to global real estate investors. They have clients in every sector, ranging from multi-national property investment firms to specialist tech start-ups. It has a presence across London and the South of England but maintains a national client base.

This acquisition extends the range of specialist support available to Burgess Hodgson's client base, which spans owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs, real estate investors, and mid-market corporates across Kent, London, and the wider UK.

Clients with commercial property interests, active development or refurbishment programmes, or qualifying innovation investment will now have direct access to Wandsworth Consulting's specialist expertise through their existing relationship with Burgess Hodgson.

Wandsworth Consulting brings to the combined business more than 70 years of collective experience in specialist tax relief, with its leadership having previously held senior roles at Big Four accountancy firms, leading boutique tax specialists and international real estate practices. Their approach to preparing high-quality claim reports ensures that HMRC receives the information needed to review claims efficiently, helping to reduce queries and enable swift processing.

Wandsworth Consulting will continue to operate under its own name in the near term, working alongside Burgess Hodgson as part of a wider group.

“This acquisition represents an important step in our long-term strategy to strengthen and broaden our specialist advisory capabilities,” said Richard Stewart, Chief Executive of Burgess Hodgson.

“Wandsworth Consulting’s expertise in capital allowances and R&D tax relief complements our existing strengths perfectly. Just as importantly, we share a common philosophy: exceptional technical insight delivered through genuine, long-standing relationships and a commitment to helping clients achieve sustainable success.”

“We are delighted to welcome the Wandsworth Consulting team and look forward to building a stronger, broader and even more capable advisory offering together.”

Patrick Knight, director and founder of Wandsworth Consulting, said the acquisition marked an exciting new chapter for the practice.

“From the outset, it was clear that we share the same values, a focus on expertise, trusted relationships and high-quality, commercially minded advice. By combining our specialist knowledge with Burgess Hodgson’s wider advisory capabilities, we are creating a powerful platform that will enable clients to access a broader range of services and deeper technical support. We are proud to become part of a firm that is ambitious, forward-thinking and genuinely committed to delivering outstanding client outcomes.”

The acquisition forms part of Burgess Hodgson’s growth plan, supported by Abry Partners, to invest in specialist expertise and expand its advisory capabilities across tax, accountancy, and business advisory.
