The charitable arm of a homebuilder is celebrating the meaningful impact it has made in Kent, with colleagues dedicating more time than ever to supporting charities and community organisations.

Led by the Barratt Redrow Foundation, in the year leading up to June 2026, employees at Barratt David Wilson’s Kent division completed 172 volunteering days, supported 17 organisations and community groups and raised and donated £164,859 through fundraising and charitable activity.

Each employee is entitled to two paid volunteering days per year, enabling teams to make a difference to causes close to their heart

Rachel Whyman, Divisional Charity Lead, said: “It’s brilliant to see so many colleagues embracing the opportunity to volunteer and support worthwhile causes in the communities where we build.

“From painting classroom walls to supporting local dog shelters, they’ve seen the difference they can make by getting involved.”

Driving impactful change

Since 2023, the division has delivered community projects including school refurbishments and litter clean-ups.

One standout example is The Hive project, which saw 67 colleagues volunteer for 87 days to expand the training and recreation centre’s facilities. The team constructed two new cabins and helped maintain its sensory garden.

The new cabins have expanded The Hive's capacity to support people with special educational needs and disabilities, providing vital opportunities for growth, learning and social connection.

The impact of volunteering efforts extends beyond the community, with colleagues reporting increased morale, stronger team connections and a greater sense of personal fulfilment.

Speaking of what volunteering means to him, Andrew Mason, Project Manager – Technical, said: “The kind of volunteering we do is a great way of being involved in and interacting with local communities. We benefit from the range of easy-to-difficult tasks needed by the charities across a diversity of projects. We get immediate satisfaction from transforming an environment the charity cannot afford or achieve with its resources.”

Looking ahead

Rachel said: “We don't just build homes; we support communities. By continuing to invest in our communities and empowering our employees to get involved, we can continue making a difference across Kent.”

Andy Button-Stephens, Head of the Barratt Redrow Foundation, added: “The Barratt David Wilson Kent division has done a fantastic job delivering meaningful change. Volunteering plays a key role in the foundation’s mission to create thriving communities and support those who need it most.

“By supporting local charities, schools and community organisations that are so important to local people, these initiatives help create spaces where communities can come together and ultimately strengthen the social fabric of the areas in which we live and work.”
