A Kent business leader is celebrating 40 years with one of the South East’s longest-running structural timber specialists.
Les Fuller, Managing Director at Calldene Structural Timber Solutions, has been part of the company’s journey from a small Sussex operation to a regional name in engineered timber – helping it adapt through decades of change while maintaining its family-run character.
Les initially joined Triad Timber Components, a Calldene company, in 1985. At this time the business focussed mainly on supplying trussed rafters to local housebuilders. Earlier this year, Triad Timber Components was brought under the Calldene Structural Timber Solutions brand alongside sister company, Dover Trussed Roof Company – representing more than 70 years of combined timber engineering experience.
Calldene Structural Timber Solutions supplies precision-engineered roof and floor solutions to housebuilders across Southern England and the Home Counties. The business continues to invest in modern manufacturing facilities to meet rising demand for locally-sourced, sustainable timber products – while retaining the close-knit ethos that has defined it since the early days.
Les credits the company’s success to its people and its consistent focus on quality, reliability and service.
“The industry looks very different to when I first started, but its core values haven’t changed,” said Les. “Our job has always been to combine engineering precision with craftsmanship – and technology has simply given us new ways to do that. We continue to invest in advanced manufacturing so we can deliver even greater efficiency and sustainability for our clients.
“But what makes this milestone special are the people I’ve worked with along the way. Despite the business growing and changing, we’ve retained that family-run character and strong internal culture that defines us. My son now works here too, and several of our team members have been with us for over 30 years – including one I hired straight out of school. That loyalty runs deep, and it’s what makes Calldene such a special place to work.”
As Calldene Structural Timber Solutions continues to grow across the South East, Les’s milestone marks not only a personal achievement, but a celebration of the company’s roots, its people, and its continued investment in the region’s construction future.
