New fleet expected to remove around 16 tonnes of direct CO₂ emissions annually as part of wider investment in more efficient and sustainable operations

Saracen Horse Feeds has introduced a new all-electric forklift fleet, replacing LPG-powered trucks and removing an estimated 10,800 litres of propane consumption from its operations each year.

The eight new electric trucks became operational this week and are expected to reduce direct CO₂ emissions by approximately 16 tonnes annually.

John Rawdon-Mogg, Managing Director at Saracen Horse Feeds, said:

“Investing in our new electric forklift fleet is about much more than replacing equipment. It is part of a wider programme to modernise our operation and make practical improvements that support efficiency, sustainability and the working environment for our team.

“We are continually looking at where changes can make a measurable difference, whether that is through the equipment we use, the energy that powers our site or the way we package our products.

“This latest investment is another step in ensuring that our operation is equipped to support the future of the business while continuing to reduce our environmental impact.”

The new fleet comprises three Linde R14G electric indoor/outdoor reach trucks and five Baoli KBE25 electric counterbalance trucks, supporting the movement of raw materials, finished products and pallets across the site.

In addition to reducing fossil-fuel consumption, the electric trucks will eliminate direct exhaust emissions from forklift operations and provide quieter operation within the working environment.

The investment forms part of a broader programme of improvements across Saracen Horse Feeds. This has included the development of more sustainable packaging across the feed range, the installation of energy-efficient lighting within its warehouses and the move to a fully renewable grid electricity supply, as just a few examples.

Saracen Horse Feeds operates across approximately 145,000 square feet, supplies more than 1,000 retailers and employs 55 people. Continued investment in equipment and infrastructure is therefore central to improving operational resilience, supporting future growth and reducing the environmental impact of the business.
