Warners Solicitors has advised Julian Leefe-Griffiths and his wife, Sarah, on the sale of the Grade II listed Tunbridge Wells Hotel to Home Grown Hotels, operator of the luxury hotel brand THE PIG.

The 20-bedroom hotel, located in the heart of The Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells, was sold for an undisclosed sum against a guide price of £2.695 million.

The historic 18th-century property includes a bar, restaurant, function room and outdoor dining areas. Under THE PIG’s ownership, the hotel is expected to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment programme over the coming months, with a focus on championing local suppliers and produce.

Julian Leefe-Griffiths has operated the hotel for the past 13 years.

Andrew Hawkins, Head of Corporate & Commercial at Warners Solicitors, led the deal team with support from Holly Morriss (Corporate), Angela Robinson and William Shields (Commercial Property) and Faye Shortall (Employment). Andrew commented:

“It was a real pleasure to work with Julian and Sarah on the sale of such an iconic Tunbridge Wells property. The hotel has been an important part of The Pantiles for many years and we are delighted to have supported our clients through such a significant transaction and into the next chapter for both them and the hotel. I look forward to seeing how the hotel develops under the ownership of such an established boutique brand of hotels in the UK.”

Julian Leefe-Griffiths commented:

“Warners did a great job in guiding us through the sale process and dealing with the negotiations. I was very impressed by the way Andrew and the team handled what was a significant and complex transaction for us. They were all extremely professional, responsive and approachable, and their expertise across the different aspects of the deal gave us real confidence we were in safe hands. We are very grateful to the whole team for their advice and support in helping us reach completion.”

The sale was handled by leisure property specialists Fleurets, now part of Graham + Sibbald, on behalf of the vendors.

The acquisition forms part of THE PIG’s continued expansion, with the Tunbridge Wells Hotel set to become its latest hotel in the Southeast.
