This Week’s Kent Business News

➡️ Housebuilder driving change with volunteering efforts

Barratt David Wilson Homes’ Kent team gave 172 days of volunteering in the year to June 2026, supporting 17 local organisations and raising or donating £164,859 through its charitable activity. The work ranges from school refurbishments and litter clean-ups to local animal charities, with staff each able to take two paid volunteering days for causes close to their hearts.

One major project was The Hive, where 67 colleagues spent 87 days creating two cabins and caring for the sensory garden. The additions have increased the centre’s ability to support people with special educational needs and disabilities, while giving the homebuilder’s team a direct role in their local community.

➡️ Furley Page sponsors Pilgrims Hospices annual Golf Day

More than 100 golfers helped Pilgrims Hospices raise almost £20,250 at its annual Golf Day at Canterbury Golf Club. Furley Page returned as headline sponsor for the second year, backing a charity that needs £18m a year to provide specialist end-of-life care in East Kent and at home.

Twenty-five teams took part in a friendly but competitive day, with Think Lifting Ltd taking the top prize. The event began with breakfast and finished with lunch, prize-giving and more fundraising at the clubhouse, bringing businesses together around a cause that affects families across Ashford, Canterbury and Thanet.

➡️ Sew Revamp launches Halloween mystery giveaway celebrating sustainable fashion from Deal

Deal maker Emma, founder of Sew Revamp, is giving away one of five mystery Halloween shirts made from reclaimed materials. Started this year from a home-based workshop in Deal, the business takes unwanted textiles, vintage pieces and pre-loved garments and refashions them into one-off shirts, offering a slower alternative to mass-produced fashion.

The giveaway runs until 2 October. The shirts are being kept under wraps, but each has its own Halloween theme and will be made in a different size from small to XXL. The winner chooses their size, then discovers which handmade design is theirs and supports a local circular-fashion maker.

➡️ Kent and South East law firms match London growth while improving cash performance

Kent and South East law firms are matching London’s 11 to 12 per cent revenue growth, while getting better at turning that growth into cash, according to Crowe’s latest benchmarking survey. Regional firms cut average lock-up from 140 to 132 days, while the City average rose to 153 days.

Half of firms exceeded budget, yet 51 per cent are now prioritising margin improvement and cash generation. Rising employment expenses remain the biggest pressure on profits and 79 per cent of firms are funding AI initiatives, showing how the sector is investing while trying to protect margins and improve operational efficiency.

➡️ Asian hornets on agenda for MP visit to Ashford business

Ashford MP Sojan Joseph visited Bounty Pest Control to hear how the local business is tracking Yellow-Legged, or Asian, hornets alongside its regular work for commercial, public-sector and residential customers. The visit also brought together the British Pest Control Association and the family-run company, which reaches its 30th year in 2027.

The discussion covered the industry’s role in keeping schools, hospitals, food supply chains and businesses operating safely. BPCA says professional pest control adds £1bn to the UK economy and saves households and businesses £1.9bn a year. Bounty’s team also highlighted the specialist tools, training and regulation behind the work.

How Ben Built BGH From Door Knocking to 300 Five-Star Reviews

Ben launched BGH Driveway & Patio Cleaning and Restoration Specialists in Hoo in 2020 with decades of trade experience, a belief in doing things properly, and a willingness to knock on doors to win his first jobs.

Six years on, the family-run business has earned more than 300 five-star Google reviews, multiple awards and a reputation for dramatic transformations across Kent. Rather than treating every tired driveway or patio as a replacement job, Ben’s approach is simple: restore, don’t replace.

In our latest Kent Business Spotlight, Ben shares how he built the business one customer and one review at a time, why proper restoration is far more than pressure washing, and the lessons he learned from his father, a talented stonemason.
